What did you eat Today ?
Every one makes New Year Resolutions - or at least thats what the general buzz is every new year. I usually don't make them - but this year was different. I resolved to learn how to blog. For the past couple of months I have been reading many blogs specially those connected with food. So I decided that I would not only attempt to blog but blog about food. So here goes ...... I resolve to blog about what I ate, share recipes and add pictures where ever possible. Happy New Year

Yesterday was our 28 Wedding Anniversary, and my daughter decided to cook us our evening meal. When we got home from work we were blind folded and taken to our bedroom, there we were given chilled beer in lovely tall glasses and asked to wait, as India was playing their 3rd test against South Africa we did as instructed and stayed watching the match. Once dinner was ready Kannagi asked us to come out. The table was set beautifully with lovely candles and our meal all plated and ready to eat. We were served beautiful golden fried fish, cooked in a beer based batter with breadcrumbs, served with chips and mushy peas. For afters we had bread and butter pudding.
This blog Is going to be fun as now my family are all talking about what to make for the next meal so that I can write about it.
Today we had a show of Dreams of Taleem at Prithvi, so dinner is going t be late and we will be so tired that it will really be a no fuss dinner, just something to eat so as not to go to sleep on an empty stomach.
But I normally take some thing to eat for the cast. This play has only four actors and four backstage to help the productions, unlike SUnil's other plays which have larger cast. Also this group of actors are all really health conscious and don't eat anything fried (no samosa or vada pav). So today I have made coriander chutney and cucumber sandwiches ( some with butter and some without) and with that a four bean salad (Rajma, kabuli chana, kala chana
and black eye beans) with iceberg and mushrooms, the dressing is made with extra virgin olive oil, honey, lemon juice, some of the liquid used to cook the beans this was infusede with a little garlic so has a delicious flavour, and I added some dries parsley and oregano I also added a little liquid which was in my jar of pickled gerkins. When I took the sAnwiches and the Salad to Prithvi, Sunil told me that as usual I had brounght too much, but the sandwiches got over well before first bell and the last bean from the salad was polished off before the show started. Have to make more for tomorrow.

Have had 2 great meals the last two days
On Monday Lata had made this most wonderful out of this world Kala Mutton - a recipe which Yeshwant mama used to make. We all were eating it after a long gap and I think we wiped the pot clean.
Yesterday we went to Shalimar in Bandra (Linking Road) - opposite Shopper's Stop. There we had Mutton soup followed by Nulli Ghosth, and Beja masala with really crisp whole wheat rotis followed by Raan Biryani.

My daughter cooked Andhra Biryani for lunch today - it was terrific - all morning the house was full of cooking aromas. What a great way to start the New Year. Yesterday (1/1/11) we went and saw a new play - Rebecca - A K Various's new offering. If beginnings are to go by looks like 2011 will be full of Theatre and good food.
For dinner tonight my daughter made Spaghetti with Garlic,Olive Oil &Red Chilly sprinkled with parmesan and I made a fresh iceberg & tomato salad garnished with pearly pickled onions & gherkins, dressed with just fresh lemon juice. This we ate with a lovely chilled chardonnay.
Yummy
